Remedies to take camping & hiking

One of the things I love about Homeopathy is the wide range of concerns it can be useful for, and the fact that home-prescribing can be quite simple for many everyday situations.

My family and I go camping & hiking quite often. Sometimes we stay at campgrounds, while other times we hike into the forest or mountains and spend the night there. No matter where we’re headed, I always make sure to bring a few remedies along with me.

After my most recent trip, where I once again found myself reaching for some of those remedies, I thought it would be helpful to share a list of what you might consider taking with you on your next camping or hiking adventure.

The list below is fairly extensive - read through and pick the remedies you think will best fit your needs/situation. A 30C potency would be sufficient for most needs. Read more about potency and dosing.

Homeopathic Remedies

Aconite - the ‘arnica of the eye,’ use it for similar situations as you would Arnica, but specific to the eye itself; useful after a frightful/shocking incident; feeling anxious

Apis - bug bites & stings; rashes, swelling and eruptions with a ‘stinging’ sensation

Arnica - first remedy to think of after injury, bruising, trauma; muscle strain or fatigue (overworking muscles); general sore, bruised feeling

Arsenicum - food poisoning with vomiting, nausea and/or diarrhea; anxiety about health; restless yet exahausted

Belladonna - sudden, intense headache after too much sun/heat exposure; redness of the face; heat and hotness in the head

Bryonia - pain & stiffness after exertion where any movement makes things worse; after trauma if Arnica doesn’t help

Calendula - wounds, cuts, abrasions and burns; helps avoid infection; can be taken orally in Homeopathic form and/or used topically in herbal cream/ointment

Cantharis - burns with redness and blistering; bites & stings with a burning sensation

Chamomilla - painful earaches after swimming; pain that seems out of proportion to the injury/can’t stand the pain

Gelsemium - headaches after sun/heat exposure; extreme exhaustion & mental dullness

Hypericum - any injury to nerves/nerve rich area (hands, feet, head, spine, tailbone); numbness; pain shoots upwards; puncture wounds or insect bites

Ledum - bruising that is black/dark purple (black eye); insect bites (especially after tick bite - read more here) or puncture wounds

Nux-v - ailments after over-doing things or excess, may have digestive upset, feel especially sensitive/irritable, crave stimulants (sugar, caffeine)

Phosphorus - nosebleeds (or any bleeding) with bright red blood

Rhus-t - sprains, strains and over-exertion, where first motion is stiff/difficult but continued motion helps (‘limbering up’ - opposite of Bryonia); ligament injury; joint pain; top remedy for Poison Ivy exposure

Ruta - joint, tendon or cartilage injury; bruised, aching soreness; weak and weary

Tissue Salts

If you know me, you know how much I love and use Tissue salts alongside homeopathic care. Tissue (or Cell) salts are a great additional support for the body and are commonly available in a 6X potency.

Ferrum phos - first signs/stages of inflammation; nosebleeds/bleeding

Mag phos - muscle cramps/spasms, colic

Nat mur - sun/heat stroke

Nat sulph - head injuries

Silica - helps expel splinters/foreign objects; pus formation

Wowzers, quite the combined list! Don’t feel overwhelmed, Homeopathy is best learned through practice and use - if you’re wanting additional support, book a Discovery Call and we can talk more. Link below.
