Remedies for Burnout & Exhaustion

Very often by the time we reach perimenopause our nervous system is overworked and drained. There is a lot of information out there about steps we can take to calm our nervous system, and I wanted to address this issue specifically with Homeopathy and Tissue Salts in mind.

Phosphoricum acidum - a great remedy for exhaustion and collapse especially after being sick/ill, grief, shock, loss, disappointed love or homesickness. There is often extreme weakness, lethargy and/or apathy. You may be sleepy in the day and awake at night. Often when this remedy is needed, any exertion (physical, mental or emotional) makes you feel worse. Rest and naps will usually improves things. Exhaustion/fatigue often starts on the emotional plane and then progresses to physical or mental spheres.

Kalium phosphoricum - this remedy is indicated for overwhelm caused by prolonged stress, worry, study, intense work or excitement. There can be a constant nervous debility leading to irritability. People often feel wired at night, preventing sleep, but tired overall. It can revitalize the nervous system. Helps with brain fog and anxiety. This can be taken in a 30C homeopathic potency or a 6X tissue salt potency.

Picrum acidum - think of this remedy for exhaustion after mental work. You may be forgetful, have difficulty concentrating and feel indifferent. The body can begin to feel heavy, weak and tired.

Sepia - fantastic remedy for those who are worn out both mentally and physically. There is much irritability, indifference and overwhelm. This is a very important remedy for hormonal shifts in life, such as puberty, pregnancy and or course perimenopause.

Avena sativa - helpful for the overworked nervous system, especially from prolonged stress. Key times in life include postpartum or perimenopause. You may be exhausted and sleepless, drained from responsibility and emotional strain.

Cortisol - this is the homoeopathically potentized form of the hormone cortisol. Ideal for a burned out, exhausted state. Likely accompanied by digestive issues/upset. As well, insomnia at night leading to exhaustion in the day.

Adrenaline - also the homeopathic form of the hormone, in this case adrenaline. Useful for chronic fatigue in an extremely stressed state. You may be having panic attacks from stress, which can develop into depression. Also, this remedy is well indicated for migraines from anticipatory anxiety.

Adrenal gland - a remedy made from healthy adrenal glands, it supports the glands when chronic stress and burnout are present. It can also help balance the glands whether they are over or under functioning. It can be taken with the other remedies mentioned, as an organ support.

And last but not least, who doesn’t love a good bath?! You can add tissue salts in the bath to relax/unwind - Kali phos, Mag phos and Calc phos.

When trying any of the above remedies, start with a 30C potency and go slow. Take a dose and then observe how you’re feeling. Homeopathy is a “slow and steady” modality and takes time.
